Here We Go.....

When I was young I often had a pencil in one hand and some drawing paper in the other. I'd follow my Mom around the house asking her, "What should I draw?" It didn't really matter what she suggested, I just wanted to create something new. My artistic and creative juices began flowing at a very early age. In addition to art, I also gained a love for cooking while quite young. My Mom taught me that if I could read a recipe then I could cook anything I wanted! As I learned I especially gained a love for baking. I remember the first time I ever made cookies, I used 2 cups of salt instead of 2 cups of sugar. Sugar and salt looked exactly the same to me... so I didn't understand the difference. Yuck! Thankfully my baking skills have improved since then.

It only seems natural that at some point my love for art and baking would collide. Cake decorating seemed like a natural fit to me. I first thought about cake decorating back in 1988, but we had two very small children and were living in a little 2 bedroom apartment. Logistically it didn't seem possible, but over the years I continued to read and learn what I could on the subject. I would decorate cute birthday cakes for my kids, I'd tuck away recipes and advice I'd received from others, and I'd practice simple flower making from my homemade fondant.

Over the last several years I began decorating larger and more elaborate cakes. I've had many people ask me how to properly bake a cake, what recipes to use, how to get smooth frosting, how to work with fondant, how to make my flowers etc. Friends of mine have also been pushing me to start a blog, so I guess the time has come. I hope some of you will find my pictures and advice informative. Today I begin my blogging adventure so hang on... Here We Go!
